Hijacking our psychology: why we fall for scams and how to prevent it

Most of us believe that we won’t be the one to fall for a scam, but that very certainty can make us more likely to fall prey. Scams are increasingly sophisticated in their execution, but even the most simple ones use our own psychology against us. Anyone can fall victim in a moment of distraction, tiredness, or when a scam is particularly well designed. This talk will look at how scammers exploit human vulnerabilities in phishing scams, online romance and other scams. It will also look at how we can protect ourselves and our organisations, and how to create a culture of cyber security.
